TWO LEVELS DOWN

It’s critical to look two levels down and provide mentorship, coaching and lessons learned.  I don’t think you really learn your job until you have left it and are about to leave the next one after that, so, I think, you’re probably most effective at two levels down.  If you want your intent carried out and your culture changed, you have to touch that level regularly. You have to make that level believe.  They are your change agents.

Never over-react to mistakes, or what you perceive initially to be a mistake.  Fix the problem only after you are positive what the problem is.  Don’t fix problems that can and should be fixed at a lower level.  That is not effective, it is not lasting.  A lot of people probably know about it and tolerated it.  Find them and fix them, or you a just wasting your time.

Don't be the person who sits in the dark complaining about how bad things are. Do something about it!  When something is wrong, it seems like everybody know’s about it except who?  Yep, the person that can actually fix it.  Just because you have been beating your head against the wall with no obvious progress doesn't mean the wall won't fall down some time.  Sometimes it's just a matter of the person on the other side getting tired and moving out.  If you are right- and it is important- keep banging!!

Remember, loyalty works both ways. Don't' expect it if you are not prepared to give it.

RLTW!
