CYRUS NORCROSS
Cyrus Leopold Norcross is a Navajo poet, award-winning photojournalist, and former U.S. Army Ranger whose work captures the human side of conflict and its aftermath.
After serving with the 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in Iraq and Afghanistan, he turned to storytelling, first through a camera lens as a photojournalist and later as an investigative journalist specializing in crime and politics. His reporting earned recognition from the Military Veterans in Journalism and the Indigenous Journalists Association.
Cyrus holds a B.A. in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
His debut poetry collection, When the Sun Rises, is born from the silence that follows war, the weight of memory, the ache of survival, and the quiet strength it takes to keep moving forward.
The book also introduces Pathku, a poetic form he created, shaped by precision, restraint, and reflection. By weaving haiku into a continuous path of memory, Pathku traces the course of the poet’s life, offering both a record of lived experience and a tool for healing.
Based between the United States and abroad, Cyrus continues to write, travel, and share his work with audiences worldwide, using poetry as a map for healing.
